Have you ever watched a video online and thought “Wow that is so cool, inspirational, etc.” only to look at the comments to see completely different opinions…and think “wait, what?!”
I’m in a golden retriever group and an owner posted his golden at the Boston Marathon (which ended up on ABC news) and I immediately thought “that golden is so happy right now!” only to find “that poor dog” because it was in the rain all over the comments.
Once I watched an inspirational story of a mom releasing balloons with her kids in memory of her husband & it was so neat, and it was PLASTERED with “balloons kill!” What?!
Have you experienced this online?
The human brain is SO DIFFERENT…it’s so fascinating to me!! All you have to do is read comments from any news story or online video to realize this. (I tend to avoid it, due to negativity.)
Then if you are in sales, you’ll really get to live it out. People will say things you never even CONSIDERED or that make no sense to you and you start to think wow am I cut out for this?! I feel like I’m in an alternative universe sometimes!
But we must remember that all humans are first off, wired different, THEN we all have different life experiences that shape our ideas and thoughts. Then factor in whether someone is negative or positive in nature (or very much so also based on life history, choices, chemical makeup, etc.) and you get a population of over seven billion people with different thoughts, opinions, actions, words, etc.
My point is this.
Seeing this happen, just in comments online, HELPS me in my sales position because I recognize I am only a messenger. I’m someone who can educate based on my experience and others’ reactions truly are none of my business. It would be way too much to take on, to try to CHANGE a way of thinking that could have been embedded for 30 years!
It’s when you think everyone “should” have the same opinion as you, that you will stop having fun…anywhere! Your job, at home, even in the grocery store! But the good news is that people’s brains CHANGE with life experience, more education, aging, maturing, etc. and because of that we know with consistency and confidence we could still impact others and help them through a decision (the definition of sales) when they are ready.
Side note: I still think this puppy is happy – my golden is happy any time she is next to me, getting attention, feeling purposeful, in any weather conditions. Pretty sure her owner is also a very responsible & loving owner.
