Did you know??? If something ended in the word “diet” I’ve probably done it.
I won’t bore you with that train wreck, but I want to share what changed. (Stick with me – lengthy but good!)
Adapting a WOE (way of eating) rather than a “diet” with a start and a finish.
Newsflash! There is no finish line in your wellness journey, so you best be enjoying the journey!
I started with 100 Days of Real Food; after my dad’s cancer all the research led me to reducing processed foods as much as I could. www.100daysofrealfood.com
That rolled into a Paleo WOE mainly because I identified dairy altered my digestion. I still maintain that 80/20.
Yes, I may have been at my ideal weight BUT, I was gluten free, dairy free, night shade free, LIFE free it seemed. I was still needing caffeine, still had headaches & bloating, still slept lightly & my back continued to have flair ups.
(TIP OF THE DAY: Weight means nothing if your insides still suck.)
That is when I started the nutrition I use now which was the final piece of the puzzle. It healed up my gut, headaches, aches, monthly issues, cravings and thank GOD it was easy.
Sorry, but if I have to journal my supplements or mix together concoctions – It isn’t going to last long for me (cue: child screaming in the background as I write this, point made). Oh, and it gave me back all the things I couldn’t tolerate?!
I started doing Whole 30 plans – which I run in a group a few times a year. LOVE that challenge (our next one in October!) but I don’t sustain it cause…..WINE.
- Adapting a balanced WOE
- Adding in a super high-quality supplement that helped me wipe out my entire medicine cabinet & have more energy than I did in my teens
- Drinking water only
- Running / sweating routinely
- And finally, THROWING OUT THE DAMN SCALE
- (I’ve since added meditation / positive audio)
I share this because I KNOW you…school is back into session soon and you are like “ACK I gotta do all the things, summers got me fluffy!”
What if you do what you KNOW you will sustain…a clean-up. That’s what I’m doing because summer always gets me a little off track:
- Lean meat
- Healthy fats (oils, nuts, olives, clarified butter)
- Sweat & fresh air!
Also, being accountable for your actions. Don’t “wonder why you aren’t winning when you just ate a bag of Cheetos in your car.” Just cause no one else saw you doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. #myreallife
BUT don’t beat yourself up! Give yourself grace & keep going.
I’m starting to watch a webinar on how to eat to avoid/heal cancer and my guess is the above will be pretty close! I’ll report back.
One last thing…anxiety & stress I believe is more harmful than food. After my dad died I spiraled into a “omg all things are killing me must cut out all the things” depression and I believe that did more harm than good!
Balance has been the key to everything and I’m happy to say at 40 I feel better than I did even in my 20s and early 30s and it was just a matter of doing all the WRONG things to get the right things. SIMPLIFY.
If you have yet to adapt an easy vitamin/probiotic system, I can share that with you. If you already feel amazing – no need to switch things up. You may not know, however, that things could be even better. I didn’t until I tried!
Cheers to this crazy journey of wellness I’ve come to LOVE even the ups and downs…we are all in this together and that’s what makes it fun!
WE DESERVE to be and feel our best. It’s the best action plan toward handling all the life that will be thrown at us. I’m cheering you on from here!
